Makamure community used to wait for the government to think and plan their affairs for them. They now believe that the community belongs to them and the success or failure largely lies upon their own shoulders. They are able to make decisions and stick to their own decisions. One of the primary schools was struggling to have drinking water. The community gathered together and discussed about what to do. They first agreed for each family to take water to the school once a week. Later they realised that it was tiresome and laborious so they evaluated the project and found out that it wasn’t sustainable. They came together again and unanimously agreed to divert water from one of the village boreholes to the school. What a community, sacrificing all the water they had for the school so that their children may get better education. It shows they are focussing more on the future than the past. This means that the school pass rate is going to improve and increase in the coming years because the school will have qualified teachers.
